As part of our ‘Active School’s Week’ initiative and in an attempt to highlight the importance of physical exercise for children, Scoil na Mainistreach has teamed up with the globally-renowned ‘parkrun’ running event. Castletown parkrun takes place every Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. and their Event Director, Sharon Ashmore has kindly invited the parents and boys of 4th, 5th and 6th class to join them for a ‘children-friendly’ parkrun on Saturday 14th May. We are very excited to have this opportunity and look forward to lots of our students participating in this free event alongside their parents/guardians. We hope to have lots of our boys (accompanied by a guardian if under 11) at this event. If you wish to take part in this event, please follow these steps:
If you or your child are unable/prefer not to enter the event, it would be great if you could volunteer instead. parkrun is a community-based initiative and its success depends on the support of volunteers. In order to make this a children’s parkrun, Sharon Ashmore has asked that we provide 10 children (with parents) who will act as volunteers on the morning if they prefer not to run the 5k. So all support would be greatly appreciated. If you can volunteer, please make sure that you register with parkrun and email [email protected] to express an interest in volunteering. Looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday 14th May (arrive early to warm-up).

It will take place in Scoil Na Mainistreach from the 9th to 13th May. Last years ASW was a great success and highlights of ASW 2015 can be found here.
The ASW initiative is about providing FUN and INCLUSIVE physical activity opportunities for ALL members of the school community. . It allows schools to reinforce the message that not only is physical activity good for you but it also very enjoyable. In Scoil Na Mainistreach we try to expose pupils and their families to the many groups and organisations providing physical activity opportunities often close to our doorsteps. Keep an eye on this page in the coming weeks as we will announce the upcoming activities as they are finalised with the various groups and organisations. During the week itself this page will feature daily updates of the activities taking place as well as information and links to the sporting groups and organisations helping out. |
