I wish to congratulate Dominic Tyrrell, on being appointed as Principal of Killina National School. Dominic who is currently teaching one of our Junior Infant classes has been with us for 15 years and has made an enormous contribution to the school community. This means he will be leaving us and taking up his new post after Easter. We wish him all the very best in his new position and we know what an excellent Principal he will be. REMINDER HALF DAY Just a reminder that we will be finished at 12 o'clock Thursday 22nd Feb for staff training. Could you please ensure the boys are picked up promptly. This is the first part of Child Protection Procedures training, the second half day will be Friday 2nd March. NON UNIFORM UPDATE A massive thank you for the generosity shown last week for our non uniform day to raise money for one of the boys in our school. So far we have raised over €2,000 and we have passed this onto the family. The family have expressed how grateful they are and have stated that all money will go towards their sons contribution. Dear Parents, Dates for your Diary: On December 11th 2017 all remaining provisions of the Childrens First Act 2015 commenced. This enactment places a statutory responsibility on schools to comply with the existing Child Protection Procedures for schools. The Department of Education and Skills through PDST (Professional Development Service for Teachers) are providing in-service/training for school staff. The Board of Management of Scoil na Mainistreach wishes to inform Parents/Guardians that the school will close on Thursday 22nd February and Friday 2nd March at 12.00 pm (on both days) to comply with these requests and to facilitate this in-service/training for staff. Please ensure children are collected promptly on both days. Mid-Term: The school will be closed this Thursday 15th and Friday 16th February for mid term break. First Reconciliation: First Reconciliation for First Communion classes is Wednesday 21st February at 7.30 pm in the Church. Non-Uniform Day: As mentioned in last weeks email, we are holding a non uniform day this Wednesday 14th February to raise funds in support of the family of one of our boys who was involved in a serious car accident before Christmas. We are asking parents for any donation that they would like to contribute. All proceeds will go directly to his family. Trócaire: All Trócaire boxes have now been given out. We can only accept them on the morning of Thursday 22nd March. Please do not bring them in before this date. Junior Entrepeneur Programme: The winners in Mr Mulreids 6th class are now selling their personalized keychains. Email in any picture you want on a keychain to [email protected]. They are 1 keychain for €2, 2 for €3.50 or any 3 for €5. Ideal gifts for Valentines Day, Mothers Day, World Book Day or Birthday Party Bags. The winners in Mr Minnocks class are now selling their HamArt. The boys produce a range of product such as Framed Hama Designs, Customised Hama Keychains, Hama Cards for all occasions. Their is a form available to download on our website or you can email the class at [email protected]. The cost is €5 per framed HamArt. The winners in Mrs Holmes 6th class are now selling their yoyos for €4 each and they have the Scoil na Mainistreach logo on them. HAMArt is a mini company set up by Mr Minnocks 6th Class boys as part of their Junior Entrepreneur Programme. The programme teaches the boys what creating a business is all about. They have come up with the idea of HAMArt creating range of products using Hama Beads (see samples below). Their slogan is 'Letting Our HAMAginations Flow'. Currently they have a range of products available for order. All the products are 100% handmade by boys in 6th Class (SLAVES)! As you can imagine the boys are very excited about their business and look forward to making lots of money! They have given order forms to the classes to boys who can chose a logo, cartoon / tv character, football team crest / jersey, or whatever they might like to purchase. Forms can be returned with €5 to the HAMArt Company in Mr Minnocks 6th class. The boys have their own webpage http://rang6snam.weebly.com/hamart which outlines their full range of products.
