We are the Scoil Na Mainistreach History squad of 2017. We won the All-Island ‘Decade of Centenaries’ History competition prize for our essay on local history. It is called Military Manoeuvres: The Forgotten Battle of Pikes Bridge. This is the second year in a row that Scoil Na Mainistreach has won this prestigious competition. We are delighted that Ms Holmes was able to continue on the excellent work started by Mrs Fleming. On The 26th of April 2017 we are going to U.C.C in Cork to receive our prize. We will be getting a tour of the University as well! We formed the history squad before Christmas. We have 14 boys going to U.C.C with Ms. Holmes, Mrs Fleming and Mrs. Corrigan. We all had parts to write about in the essay, but after all those early mornings and extra work it has finally paid off. To read this All Ireland winning Essay and learn about an event in our local history click on the link below. As well as Ms Holmes helping us we would also like to acknowledge and thank the following people for their help Jim Doyle (Local Historian) and Anthony Rogers (Owner Grangewilliam House).
