Boys and girls across the school have been busy outdoors recently building a living willow dome beside our running track and reviving the ancient art of weaving a willow fence.
On Friday the 23 rd of September, Scoil na Mainistreach hosted a visit from award winning children’s author Debbie Thomas, as part of Poetry Ireland’s
Writers in Schools Scheme. Debbie presented a two-hour workshop to the children in both Mr Harney’s and Ms Mullin’s 4 th Classes. In preparation for the workshop, the children have been reading the novel, Class Act by Debbie Thomas. So, this visit was a unique experience for the children. They got to discuss the novel they are currently reading with the actual author herself. Debbie was able to answer and clarify any questions the children had. Debbie spoke too about writing and the realities of being a writer. This gives the children great insight in to a real-life situation. It is also an inspiration for the children ‘If you can see it, you can be it’. We are very lucky to have been able to offer this opportunity to the children. Please see attached some photos of the children and Debbie Thomas, taken on the day, during the workshop. A huge congratulations to all the children who recently took part in our cycle to Maynooth. Thank you to all the boys and girls from Scoil Naoimh Brid, Scoil Mochua and St Patrick's for coming along with us on the cycle. We all raised €4,305 for Heart Children Ireland. The charity who work with children with congenital heart defects were delighted to accept the funds. Thank you to everyone who contributed.
